Cancellation Policy
Sections
This policy explains how to cancel a Sightline Subscription or trial and what happens afterward. It is part of, and does not replace, the Terms of Service, Sections 6 and 19 of which govern billing, refunds, and rejection of updated terms.
1. How to cancel
You can cancel your Subscription at any time through the billing portal. In the desktop app, open Settings → Plan → Manage subscription. On the website, open the billing page, select Sign in with your billing email, and enter your billing email address. Stripe, our payment processor, emails you a sign-in link. Follow the link and complete cancellation in the portal.
Cancellation is self-service; you do not need to call or write to support. Website sign-in requires access to your billing email; the in-app route does not. If you cannot access that email or complete cancellation through the portal, email [email protected] for help cancelling.
2. What cancelling does
Ordinary cancellation stops the next renewal charge. It does not end your access immediately: you keep your paid features through the end of the period you already paid for. When that period ends, the Software reverts to the free tier.
You do not need to accept unchanged terms again at each annual or monthly renewal. A renewal charge does not count as acceptance of updated terms.
3. Your records and access after cancellation
Cancelling a Subscription does not delete Your Content, which remains stored locally on your device. Saved observations remain exportable as CSV. Viewing computed results, formatted PDF export, and access to FBA drafts, including prose you typed yourself, require the applicable paid tier. Files you already exported remain available independently of the Software.
4. The free tier
The free tier requires no payment or account and is unaffected by ordinary cancellation of a paid Subscription, since it is not itself something you subscribe to or cancel. Rejecting updated terms is different: continued ordinary use, including free-tier use, requires the applicable terms to be accepted. The limited export or backup path remains available as described in Section 19 of the Terms of Service.
5. Trials
A trial requires no payment method at signup and never converts to a paid Subscription automatically. If you want to keep paid features after a trial ends, you choose to subscribe; if you do nothing, the trial simply ends and the Software reverts to the free tier. There is nothing to cancel to avoid being charged for a trial, because a trial never bills you.
6. Refunds
Cancellation and refunds are governed separately. See the Refund Policy for the 30-day refund on annual plans and how monthly refunds are handled. These voluntary refund terms do not limit any statutory withdrawal or refund right that applies to your purchase.
7. Rejecting updated terms
Before accepting an update, email [email protected] within 30 days after the acceptance presentation date defined in Section 19 of the Terms of Service: when the full updated terms are first shown to you in the app for your acceptance. Receiving or opening an advance notice, or following its link to read the proposed terms, does not start that window. Say that you reject the update. This request also asks us to stop renewal; we will confirm the outcome by email. You can turn off renewal through the billing portal without waiting for us, but portal cancellation alone does not request an updated-terms refund.
If continued paid access under your previously accepted terms is available, we may offer it through the end of your paid period, without renewal. You may instead choose early termination and the unused-period refund described in the Refund Policy. The unused-period calculation applies to initial and renewed paid periods alike. Rejection does not itself entitle you to a refund for time already used. Additional goodwill refunds are discretionary, without limiting the separate 30-day annual refund or refunds required by law.
After choosing termination, stop ordinary use. Paid access ends when we process the termination. You may use the offered export or backup path without accepting the update; doing so does not disqualify the refund. Termination does not delete Your Content or restore paid features. Section 19 of the Terms of Service governs this process.
