Set it up once.
Choose the student, method, behaviors, and activities in Sightline. Then send the session to your phone under a label you choose. The student’s record stays on the computer. Companion opens ready to record.
Take the phone. Leave the laptop.
Record at recess, in the cafeteria, during specials, in the hallway, or at the bus line. Tap while you observe. For interval methods, the phone buzzes in your hand or pocket. No clipboard, separate timer, or tally sheet to type up later.
Nothing to type up later.
Nearby, each tap reaches Sightline as you make it. Away, Companion holds the session until you return to your computer. It then hands the session back automatically, with the recorded events and timing intact.
All eight methods run on the phone.
There is no second setup on the phone. The method, behaviors, and activities are already there when you open Companion.
Your observation stays
between your devices.
Companion has no account, vendor server, tracking, or third-party SDKs. Session data moves between the paired phone and computer over encrypted Bluetooth LE.

Do I need the desktop app to use Companion?
Yes. Companion pairs with Sightline Starter or Pro for Mac or Windows. Record live with your computer nearby, or prepare the session on your computer before recording away and syncing when you return.
Is it a separate purchase?
No. Companion is included with Sightline Starter and Pro at no extra cost, and it works during the 21-day Pro trial. Pairing the phone doesn't use one of your desktop license activations.
When can I download Companion?
Companion is available now on the App Store. It is free, for iPhone, and records once it is paired with Sightline Starter, Pro, or the 21-day trial on Mac or Windows. Download Companion on the App Store
Which recording methods does it support?
All eight: whole interval, partial interval, momentary time sampling, frequency, duration, latency, ABC, and anecdotal. Set the method on your computer and Companion opens the prepared session.
Does it work without Wi-Fi?
Bluetooth LE only, no Wi-Fi or cellular data. If both devices are in airplane mode with Bluetooth on, the pair still works.
What do I need to run it?
An iPhone running iOS 26 or later, Sightline Starter, Pro, or the 21-day trial on Mac or Windows, and Bluetooth LE on both devices.
What should I share with district IT?
Companion sends no observation data to Ethoseen or any vendor server. Its privacy manifest declares no developer data collection or tracking. Share the full privacy architecture with your district's procurement or MDM team, which decides what approval is required.
